Exciting plans are moving forward for a landmark £4 billion renewable energy project in Swansea, marking a significant step toward the UK’s net-zero future. The ambitious initiative includes the transformation of key infrastructure sites across the city — with solar energy playing a leading role.
At the heart of the proposal is the redevelopment of the Fabian Way park and ride site. If approved, the currently underused space will become a cutting-edge Green Energy Transport Hub, featuring electric vehicle charging stations, modern working spaces, dining facilities, and the potential addition of a hydrogen fuel production station to support low-emission transport.
In tandem with the transport hub, the project also outlines the construction of a high-tech battery manufacturing facility on the former Morrissey site in SA1. The plant would produce advanced battery storage systems capable of capturing and storing renewable energy, helping to stabilise and support the national grid.
Crucially, the plan includes a significant expansion of Swansea’s solar energy capabilities. Solar farms at the old Tir John landfill site near Port Tennant are set to be extended, potentially creating one of the largest solar energy generation sites in the UK. Swansea Council highlights this as a pivotal element in their long-term strategy to decarbonise the city and boost clean energy output.
At 1 Vision Solar, we’re inspired by these bold, forward-thinking plans. Projects like this underscore the growing momentum behind solar energy as a cornerstone of the UK’s clean energy transition.
